We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Well, it's still good.  So far.  Two to three feet waves are peeling off every bump of sand and outcrop of rock in sight.  A light frost is just adding that extra twinkle of magic to a golden sunburst dawn, while the breeze is barely a whisper.  I think that the guy who has been camping the last few nights is about to have another memorable dawn breakfast on the headland.  Camping, in these temperatures?  Alone?  That's keen.

Nope, not today thank you.  It's sloppy and small and, well, the other side is fine, so why bother?

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Friday 12th March 2010

With a gradually weakening swell and a gradually veering light wind, it would be easy to write it off today.  Indeed, it's looking likely that we'll be seeing a foot or two of onshore sloppy mush at most spots today.  But it could just get better than that, if you pick the right break, at the right time and get a little lucky!

Surf Conditions for the Weekend

It's suddenly looking more promising than it was just a day or two ago.  We should see a good couple of feet of surf on Saturday with light, variable winds, which are likely to strengthen and probably be onshore but maybe just for a few hours in the afternoon.  So, the morning and evening are looking okay.  And the same applies for Sunday.  Bright sunshine always helps when the waves are a bit blown and we should see plenty of that all the way through the weekend.  Have a good one whatever you're doing!
