We hope to be able to report on the actual surf conditions each or most mornings and try to predict the next day's conditions. If we don't then the conditions are that bad (or good?).

Low Tide:

As the Olympic Torch starts  its 8,000 mile, 70 day journey passed from Olympian Ben Ainslie into the safe hands of St. Ives surfer Tassy Swallow, the sun is shining and, if you're watching on telly, you may just be able to see over Louise Minchin's shoulder those little waves lapping the very photogenic shores surrounding Land's End.
There are one to maybe almost two feet waves breaking down in the bay, all pretty and peeling and looking quite promising for a longboard session in the sun.  Maybe this afternoon.  It is small, real small but maybe bigger than it has been and the sun is shining, the wind is light and offshore (so far!), so it's all looking quite promising for a grovel on a plank.

SUPing, canoeing, swimming, well, anything other than surfing.  That's what's happening here today!  It is flat, flat, flat, flat, flat!
And that's that.

Our scale for measuring conditions is the universal one; 1ft (barely rideable - your choice), 2-3ft (hip to shoulder height when trimming across the wave), 3-4ft (head high and great), 4-5ft (that little bit bigger), 6ft (very rare - well overhead), 8ft (rarely gets bigger in this country but has been known), 10ft (very rarely rideable in this country only a few breaks can hold this size). 12ft + (get yer jet ski, yer big wave gun, kiss yer family and friends good-bye and head for the hills - but I've never seen it this big and rideable in this country).

Surf Forecast for Sunday 20th May 2012

We can expect more of the same as these tiny waves tease and tempt.

We'll be lucky to see any bigger than one foot waves washing in, all neat and pretty and shiny but real small, at best.  It could easily be flat.
So it's going to be a case of finding that little moment when those waves get tripped onto a shallow bank probably on the tidal push.  And then it will be probably only rideable on a long board.  A really long board!

Surf Conditions for the Weekend

As David Beckham drops the Olympic Torch into Cornwall kick starting that long tour of the County and then the Country, mild and bright conditions have greeted the media frenzy.
Light winds will be drifting in from all angles through most of the weekend, sometimes prettying up those small, small waves.  At other times, mainly during mid-afternoon, slopping them out.
And those waves are likely to be small.  But it shouldn't go flat, there is a low pressure system drifting across the Atlantic and okay it is a fat and flat, high low but it should keep some surf rolling our way.
I think that we can expect some small but hopefully quite rideable surf, with some shape when the wind is breezing kindly upon it.   We might just end up having had a couple of fun sessions, probably on longboards though.
Have a great weekend, whatever you're doing!
